Why is Oxford driving Open Access in Drug Discovery?
(Tues 28 Jan 15.00 - 16.00) –
The pharmaceutical industry is downsizing in Europe,
including the UK, because of poor returns on investment. With ageing societies
and diseases of modern living, many more patients are in desperate need of many
more new medicines. To this end, several scientists in Oxford are working
together to create a new ecosystem for drug discovery: one which pools the
considerable strengths in industry, with the resources and expertise of
academia, patient organisations and regulatory agencies, in an “open” way.
Prof Chas Bountra of the Nuffield Department of Medicine discusses
this “pre-competitive effort” which is unrivalled by any other academic
institute.
Venue: Medical Sciences Teaching Centre, South Parks Road.
